As a mental health nurse, mediator, stress management practitioner, and wellbeing business manager, I’ve spent more than a decade supporting people through their most vulnerable moments including: stress, crisis, conflict, and overwhelm.

I know the theory.

I know the strategies.

I understand how pressure impacts the brain and body.

But even knowing it professionally didn’t stop it from happening to me.

Because the truth is this…

You can understand burnout inside out

and still not see it coming yourself.

And I didn’t, until I was in it so deep I couldn’t tell where I ended and survival began.

I became the person you might be right now…

  • Holding everything together at work.

  • Absorbing everyone else's stress.

  • Carrying things that weren't mine to carry.

I had no capacity left. 

 

I remember sitting in my car outside my house…
mentally preparing to go inside.

Feeling guilty that the people I loved most

were getting whatever scraps I had left.

Burnout robbed me of my patience, joy, energy, and confidence.

And even with everything I knew…

I still felt completely stuck

That was my turning point.

Not the collapse, but the moment I stopped pretending I was fine.

And then? I began rebuilding, using everything I already knew… and everything I needed to learn.

I took the skills I’d spent years developing in:

  • Mental Health Nursing

  • Coaching

  • Ward Management and leading through crisis

  • Leading a large scale Wellbeing Service

  • Human behaviour & emotional regulation

  • Mediation & conflict resolution​

 

But this time....

 

I applied it properly.

I didn't just try to cope better.

I rebuilt my capacity

I learned how to:

  • calm my nervous system

  • stop running in constant survival mode

  • set boundaries that actually hold.

  • stop depending on caffeine and willpower

  • ...and build real, sustainable energy that lasts.

  • actually have the capacity to live my life… instead of just surviving it.

And slowly, I came back to myself.

Now? That work has become my mission.

Because burnout isn’t just about being tired.

It’s what happens when you’ve been running without enough capacity
for far too long.

And you don’t fix that by adding more.

You fix it by creating space.
